Game 1 and NCAA Predictions

Originally posted on LaxSpot on 05/20/2008

Well, week one of the season is now behind us and the Dragons start off 0-1 after a tough one goal loss (10-9) to the Chicago Machine.  It was a hard fought battle on the field, with both teams going back and forth the entire game.  Chicago opened the game with two straight goals before we answered back to tie it at two.  From there, we exchanged goals until halftime when Chicago took a two goal lead into the break.  We came out on fire going on a four goal run but cooled off and allowed Chicago to go on a four goal run of their own.  We were able to get the last goal of the game, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough as we came up one goal short.  My hat goes of to the Chicago team, they played hard and came out on top.  As for the Dragons, we have a bye week this week and open up at home next weekend against the Los Angles Riptide.

There is nothing worse than having a bye week after the first game of the season (and a loss) because that is all you have to think about for the next week.  When you can come back and play the next week, there are so many other things to concentrate on(scouting reports, game flim, etc) that it is easy to forget about the loss.  Fortunately for me, I bruised my quad in the fourth quarter when I got sandwiched between three Machine defenders and I can use this week to get that better so that I can be ready to go next week against the Riptide.

Predictions for this weekend?

I am hoping that Hop can knock of the Blue Devils, but I dont think this will happen.  As for the Cuse/ UVa game, I would like to see Cuse take down the Wahoos, but either way, I just want to see a good game.  I am going to pick Cuse to play Duke with Duke winning it all.
In the DIII game, I am going to go with the Seagulls.  If they can overcome getting their starting and backup goalie kicked off the team and win it, I will be impressed.
