20090508hartzellJust getting back from the golf course and taking it easy on a beautiful day here in San Jose. We played well in the Western semi-final and beat the Portland LumberJax 20-16. From the first whistle to the end we were all over them. They pulled their starting goalie Matt Disher after the first quarter. Our offense played really well and didn’t give the Jax’ defense any rest.

This weekend may 9th we play the number one seeded Calgary Roughnecks for the Western Final in the Saddle Dome.  We are only one game away from going to the NLL Championship!!!!  Guys play for years and years and never get the opportunity to play for a championship. Coach Chris Hall tells us every weekend, “winning an NLL championship will change your lives.”

This league is filled with the best talent in the world so winning the Championship sets you apart from all the rest in the lacrosse world. We are one game away from getting there and this weekend we will see who comes to play and which team wants it more. I think with the leadership and talent that we have on this team, I don’t see why we can’t walk away this weekend as the Western champs.

Tune in this weekend at 9pm Eastern Time on www.nll.com to watch the action!!!

Western Final
San Jose Stealth @ Calgary Roughnecks 9pm ET

Eastern Final
Buffalo Bandits @ New York Titans 7:30pm ET

2009051_lbIt’s been a week or so since I checked in not much lacrosse going on since the playoff bye week. Has anyone been watching playoff hockey!? That’s what I have been doing this past week. Every game is end-to-end action. My team the Capitals won game seven in Washington, which was a huge win. The Caps’ next series is against the Penguins who they will dominate.

The NLL playoffs start this weekend.

Today (May 1st) we play the LumberJax in the first round of the NLL playoffs. The team is anxious to get back into action. We arrived in Portland today and in the team film session you could tell everyone is focused and ready to go.

The LumberJax knocked the Stealth out last year for the first round so tomorrow is a pretty big grudge match. Everyone knows that if we lose that there is no tomorrow. Portland always has a huge crowd of 9,000+ so it’s going to be loud and a very exciting environment to play in. This is my first time back in playoff contention since college, but now on a bigger stage.

This has been an up and down season and a long one for us, but I don’t want it to end tomorrow. Only three games stand between us and a NLL Championship. Hopefully after tomorrow there are only two games between the championship and us. Tune in tomorrow on NLL.COM at 7:30p.m Pacific, 10:30p.m Eastern to see us take on the LumberJax!!

Western Playoff games
San Jose vs. Portland LumberJax
Colorado Mammoth vs. Calgary Roughnecks

Eastern Playoff games
New York Titans vs. Rochester Knighthawks
Boston Blazers vs. Buffalo Bandits

Last week we needed a win vs. the Minnesota Swarm and we did it in a big way winning 18-8. Our captain Colin Doyle put up a ridiculous thirteen points. When we need a goal he always seems to be involved by either dishing the apple or just doing it himself. It’s amazing to watch.

We are playing with a sense of urgency that wasn’t there in the beginning of the season. Instead of sitting in last place we are now in a three-way tie for third, a win against the Mammoth this weekend guarantees us a spot in the playoffs. This weekend is another big one for the Stealth.

We have two games remaining in the regular season, one in Colorado at the Pepsi Center, and another in Toronto vs. the Rock. It’s always exciting playing in Colorado in front of 17,000. It’s just packed. Their fans are nuts!

Colorado needs to win this game to keep their playoff hopes alive as well. The Mammoth are coming off a two game losing streak, so they’re coming into this one ready to go. This is a huge rivalry game, which will be one of the best games to watch this weekend. Playoffs are right around the corner and after this weekend we will finally know where we sit.

Game time is 6p.m, 8p.m Eastern Time, tune into www.nll.com to watch it live.

What’s up everyone? Well the weather has been great all week here in San Jose it’s eighty degrees and not a cloud in the sky. I have been spending a lot of time by the pool this week. Anyone see the MD vs Virginia lacrosse game that went into seven OT’s!? That was crazy!

Salisbury had their streak ended the other day by Gettysburg 11-10. That’s the first loss since the 2006 title game. I’m sure coach Berkman is getting the team ready for what is becoming quite the rivalry game against Stevenson who is now the #1 team in the country. I’m confident the boys will battle back this weekend and reclaim that #1 spot and make it to Foxborough in May.

Well are double-header weekend went pretty good. We lost on Saturday and won on Sunday. Going into the Double-header weekend we figured we needed to win one game to have a chance for a playoff spot. We were beating the Portland LumberJax by six goals last Saturday, and then after a couple of stealth penalties the LumberJax scored seven of the last eight goals to win the game. This changed the teams mindset going into Portland the next day.

On Sunday we went into Portland with our backs against the wall, if we lose, the playoffs are out of reach, but if we win we still are alive in the playoff hunt. We now sit a half of a game behind our western rival the Minnesota Swarm. We play the Minnesota Swarm this Friday for the number four spot in the west and a playoff spot. It will be quite the game to watch because whatever team loses drops a spot and gets further behind in the playoff race. The top four teams from each the western and eastern conference gets a playoff spot.

The game is at 7:00 p.m, and 10:00 p.m for those of you on the east coast. Tune into to www.Nll.com to watch the Stealth play for a playoff spot!!

hartzel1Hey everyone!   Sorry I have not checked in for a while.  This past weekend we played the Edmonton Rush, whoever lost this game was in last place in the West.   We were coming into this game on a three game losing streak.  We didn’t have the lead until the final thirty seconds of the game.

Rabil’s behind the back assist to Colin Doyle sealed the deal with only seconds left in the fourth quarter. The final score of the game was 11-10.  It was a huge win and  a must win because we need to win a lot of are remaining games to get into the playoffs.  This was a good start.

We have a difficult double-header weekend coming up. On Saturday we play the Portland Lumberjax in San Jose and then we jump right on a plane to Seattle and drive down to Portland for the game on Sunday.  We would be sitting real pretty if we sweep the Lumberjax this weekend, but easier said then done.

The Stealth recently just got back Shaydon Santos, Steven Holmes, and Andrew Biers at the trade deadline.  These three bring a lot to the table and are what we need at the back end to make a playoff run.  We control our own destiny and I feel like we are going to go on a run here this weekend.

Won two NCAA Division III National Championships at Salisbury.

We’re excited to have Kyle blogging for e-Lacrosse. This is Kyle’s first Blog Entry

Hey everyone how’s it going? Everything is going well out here on the left coast in San Jose, CA. I just moved out here in the month of December and the weather is awesome compared to frigid Baltimore. I just started my head-coaching job out here and it’s going pretty well. I coach a High school varsity team in Palo Alto. The name of the team is the Tomahawks and what a great group of kids I got. I have a couple of difficult decisions to make by making my final team of twenty-six by this Friday, but other than that everything is going smoothly. Besides coaching I’m just getting my workouts in and getting ready for Edmonton this weekend.

This is gut check time this weekend. After our loss to Calgary last week we need to get a win at home here this Saturday. We have more than enough talent on this team and we just need to put it together and start to win games. We seem to come out slow in the first quarter and dig ourselves to big of a hole to get out of. When we put a full game together I think fans are going to see a completely different team then the 1-3 team we are now. Besides are game on Saturday it’s Super Bowl weekend!!!

What sports analyst or human being living here on this planet picked this game? If someone picked this to be the super bowl game, I’d say that’s very impressive. Who is going to win this game? I think the Cardinals are going to win because I have a deep hatred for the Steelers because I am a diehard Ravens fan. Lets go Cardnials!! I will check back in next week, have a good weekend!
