Both teams enter this game riding win streaks. UNC has 9 straight wins and is scoring 10+ goals in each game. Lehigh has won 7 in a row. Someone’s streak…someone’s season has to end.
UNC is 12-3 with wins over Princeton, Maryland, Hopkins, and Duke. Their losses came to UMass, Notre Dame, and Duke.
UNC is led by Marcus Holman with 36Goals, 38Assists; Joey Sankey with 34G, 16A; Jimmy Bitter with 29G, 18A. In net for UNC is Kieran Burke with a oals Against Average of 10.14 and a save percentage of 55.2%
UNC has been there before. With UNC though I don’t think the “experience matters”. They have had more talented teams falter in
playoff time. Not to mention last year (last meeting with Lehigh), UNC lost.
Lehigh is 12-4 with wins over Villanova, PSU, and Bucknell twice. Their losses were to Denver, Air Force, Penn, and UMass.
Lehigh is led by David DiMaria with 31Goals, 37Assists; Dan Taylor with 29G, 21A; and Dante Fantoni with 26G, 20A. In net is Matt Poillon who has put up a 7.37 Goals Against Average and a save percentage of 60.1%.
Like it or hate it, Lehigh feeds off heir emotions. From pre-game through the final whistle. Sometimes they get under their opponent’s skin, sometimes they get under spectators skin, but one thing they ALWAYS do is wear wear their emotion on their sleeves.
With last year’s game being decided by one goal, all special teams fairly even, this game is going to come down to defense and emotion. This will be another one goal game. I could see Lehigh upsetting UNC at home.
