5-11-13 Preview Detroit vs Notre Dame

Notre Dame with the #2 seed faces off against Detroit who made it in with the MAAC Automatic Qualifier.

Detroit is 5-9 with no quality wins and many losses.  Detroit punched their ticket to the NCAAs by winning the MAAC tournament favorites Marist y 1 and Siena by 1.

Notre Dame is 10-4 with wins over Duke, PSU, UNC, Denver, OSU, and Villanova.  Their losses were to Hofstra, St. John’s, and Syracuse (twice).

In one of the few mismatches of the first round, Notre Dame should win this one easily.
The interesting thing to watch for is HOW Notre Dame comes out to play.

The past two games Notre Dame has played against Syracuse and their offense has stalled.  The Irish scored 7 goals combined in 2 games against the Orange compared to never scoring less than 7 goals in a single game all season.
In the two loss span to Syracuse, Notre Dame was outshot 71-51, outscored 19-7,and beaten on Face Offs to a Syracuse team that has struggled all year at the face off X.

This game will set the pace for Notre Dame’s tournament run.   They will need to wake up and re-energize against Detroit before they face Duke or Loyola the following week.
