While I think all of the players on the list deserve credit for exceptional play, we need to be realistic. The season isn’t over yet. When you have players on offense, defense, gaolies, and middfielders, determining whose stats are better is almost impossible. Right, wrong, or indifferent, alot of it comes down to the tournament and not just pure stats, but what have you done for your team.
IF Albany makes it into the NCAA Tournament, Lyle Thompson has my vote at this time. 38 Goals, 51 Assists, 42.7% Shooting, and he still has 2 or 3 games left.
Then there is Wells Stanwick who has decent numbers. If he can carry Hopkins on his back through the NCAAs (IF they get there), like his brother did at UVA.
None of the LSMs on the list deserve the award in my opinion. They all need to create more turnovers.
Rob Pannell. I am sure he is a favorite in many eyes. Records abound for him. And he has a knack for assists. But when he also shoots less than 25%, AND still takes most of the shots, you have to wonder. You have to remember this award is for the play this year…not for a career, and there are better options than Pannell this year.
Truth be told, it is a wide open debate for another month at this point.
What are your thoughts this early? Why should some of the big names win? Why should they be skipped?
