BALTIMORE, Md. -- Longwood University took a 10-7 women’s lacrosse victory past the University of Oregon Tuesday in Baltimore, Maryland. The Lancers improved to 4-1 with the victory, while the Ducks fell to 2-6 in their first year of competition in the sport. Longwood will play again next Tuesday, March 29, hosting the College of William and Mary at Lancer Field in Farmville beginning at 7 p.m..
Against Oregon, Longwood received two goals each from senior Isa Cohen/Mineral (Fairfax), along with sophomores Kathleen Barry/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) and Cathleen Strain/Alexandria (Mt. Vernon), while Cohen added an assist as well. Junior Jenn Shipp/Charlottesville (Albemarle) contributed a goal and two assists, while others scoring in the match included senior Leanne Kibler/Oakton (Oakton) (1 goal), junior Ali Shafer/Fairfax (Fairfax) (1 goal), freshman Joyce Haines/Prince Frederick, Md. (Calvert), as well as junior Kerry Ryan/Springfield (West Springfield) (1 assist). The Ducks were led by Jana Bradley and Theresa Waldron with two goals each, while Lindsay Pittard had two assists.
The Ducks were sloppy with the ball, committing 16 of their 26
turnovers in the first half. Oregon senior goalkeeper Louisa Dorsch played the entire game, collecting nine saves. Oregon dropped to 2-6 on the season while Longwood improved to 4-1.
Following the match against William and Mary (March 29, 7 p.m.), Longwood remains in Farmville at Lancer Field to continue a three-game homestand with matches against Canisius (April 1, 2 p.m.) and Manhattan (April 3, 12 p.m.). Oregon next will play Wednesday at LaSalle in Philadelphia at 12:30 p.m. PST.
